Final Fire and Fury Markers – for now…

The game approaches! These are the last few markers before I start working on the scenery. First, a couple of Freikorps destroyed gun markers:And a couple of Friekorps casualty figures and some broken bits and pieces from the spare box that I was originally going to throw out:

This will do me now for markers. I have enough disruption and low ammo markers for the game. I ‘might’ paint the two cavalry casualties I have but they are not essential. Fences next…

Unless I get distracted with 10mm Sudan! I’ve applied a wash to the British that Slugbalancer gave me and just painted two officers to go with them. Basing… the eternal dilemma! I had thought of doing these to use with The Men Who Would Be Kings but I think that requires either single basing and sabots or using a single base with multiple figures to represent one TMWWBKs ‘figure’… or something…

Threw some unpainted into some random bases:

The 20mm deep ones are a little too shallow for two ranks. The 30x20mm (left) are maybe a little too wide with a four figure frontage. And three figures (centre) is too spaced. Using four figures to a base may work (maybe a little deeper) but possibly a little fiddly. So we come to this:

These are Fire and Fury bases and six figures sit nicely I think. But what of command? Annoyingly I have 28 rank and file figures (two poses) so would need to paint a couple more to make the bases even. Putting officers in the line still seems wrong to me. I like them separate! Maybe I’ll paint the other two and see…

More Fire and Fury markers…

With the ACW game next month rapidly approaching I thought I’d get the last of the markers I need done. So after securing a little painting time over the last few days here is what I managed to get done.

The 16 Disrupted markers for the CSA to go with the Union ones already done. Some gun destroyed and low ammo markers for the artillery for both sides. And some more low ammo markers for the Union……and the Rebs…And the casualty markers again…All figures by Peter Pig. The low ammo markers etc. I tried doing with a base coat and a wash. The ended up being too ‘dirty’ and needing some highlighting. The casualty figures I just undercoated black and applied a single coat, leaving bit of the black showing through. Seems to work OK and is closer in style to the original Minifigs I have.

I learnt two lessons doing these. Firstly, leave your varnish overnight to dry before doing the PVA and ‘sand’ for the bases. I rushed it a little and the varnish was still a little tacky in the nooks and crannies…. Which resulted in lost of my ballast mix getting stuck in there! Bloody nightmare to get out! And secondly, I mounted the casualty figures on the oval to paint them and then used Copydex to stick those to the sticks I use as holders. The Copydex seemed to ‘bond’ with the MDF and it was a pain separating them… and one base had a ‘layer’ of MDF peel off!

I’ve got four more broken gun stands lined up and then I need to make fences!

X-Wing again…

Today, Richard (Herkybird) at the Tyneside Club said they would be playing X-Wing again. My lad Zach has been asking to go down the club for a while for a ‘proper’ game. Saturday is a bad day in some ways: football and swimming (him not me!) so we weren’t able to get down until 2.30. However, Richard was kind enough to hold off the X-Wing until we got there. It ended up with myself, Zach and Richard playing against Lawrence and Alex. They took a couple of TFA X-Wings and myself and Richard took a TIE/fo with Zach grabbing a TIE/sf – something he had not played before. Nothing fancy, face off and fight! The X-Wings veered left and an TIE/fo and the TIE/sf headed to intercept while my TIE/fo headed to swing round the back. Richards TIE/fo almost came a cropper as both X-Wings attacked. But survived and mine and Zach’s fighters entered the fray. This was the first time Zach had really used locks and it was to prove quite useful. The X-Wings re-grouped… And things started to hot up! The rear arc of the TIE/sf was rather useful and Zach was able to get in a few shots from his rear arc.Unfortunately, Alex was to be the first victim. Losing his shields to Zach and then Richard was able to finish him off! We were then able to turn our attention to Lawrence who manoeuvred well and did some damage to Richard. And although we tried to get shots in they just weren’t telling and then Lawrence got a fine attack in on Richard and put an end to him! With locks on and shields gone it was only a matter of time before myself and Zach combined our attacks and then that was Lawrence gone! It was a good simple little game. Nothing fancy in terms of cards and upgrades but proves how well the game works in even its most basic form! And yet again Richard showed his generous side. He gave me a HWK-950 and an original Millenium Falcon as a thanks for sorting a website for his various rules and a Po Dameron X-Wing for Zach as a welcome to the club! Many thanks!

A pleasant end to the afternoon.

Bolts from the blue!

With a large 15mm ACW game looming it made serious sense to focus on all the markers and terrain I will need. So clearly this week it made sense to paint some Norman crossbowmen for Ayton in May! 🙂 Figures are Perry Miniatures. Mounted on 25mm washers. These are the first 28s I’ve painted for a little while and I’m not 100% happy with the triads I used. Not helped by having run out of my usual Vallejo Buff paint! Anyway, twelve figures:

Next up I need to glue together some more of the plastic men at arms… I think I’ll do 12 all in chainmail just to speed them along!

And on another note… I’ve just traded some 1/300 aircraft for some painted 10mm Pendraken Sudan figures with Slugbalancer down in London. Figures arrived the other day. Nice simple and tidy paintjob:However, I really need a little more contrast for them to fit in with my style so I thought I’d try a GW Earthshade wash:I’m not sure if it has darkened them too much? It’s definitely helped I think.

And as you can see from the 15mm chap in the middle, I have started on more Fire and Fury markers and will be trying yet another Union Blue!

Fire and Fury markers…

For an upcoming 15mm Fire and Fury game I need a few more markers. Here are 16 Union Disrupted markers. Figure are Peter Pig.

I’ve got 16 CSA markers lined up next along with a few more Low Ammo markers.

Bit gutted I missed the York Show today. First one I’ve missed in years. Hope it was a good one for all who went.
