May 1st and Ayton Looming

It’s May 1st. Where has the time gone? Who knows…

I had great plans this year to do more blogging. More games. More ImagiNation planning… Quite. Hasn’t really happened.

I have been on a diet though and that at least is going to plan. Four stone lost. Maybe another stone to go. We shall see.

Anyway. May 1st. This coming weekend sees the annual Ayton gathering. OK so we do the odd November but May is the official one. So annual…

This year myself and Iain Burt (Essex Boy) will finally get our big ImagiNation game on the table. The long awaited bash between the righteous forces of Altefritzenburg (me) and the infamous and cowardly Gateway Alliance (him)… We’ve wanted to do this for a few years now but it never came together.

We will be joined by a couple of small contingents from Tim Hall and Peeler and Gary Phillips has kindly offered to umpire the game. We will be using Black Powder with various mods as they should enable us to actually finish the game and Gary knows them inside out so we can concentrate on the game rather than the rules.

I’m looking forward to it. It will be fun. Pics will be posted…

Most of the other chaps are doing a huge C17th Venice game. This will be BIG. I’m a little sad I’m not part of it as it will look awesome.

I will be curtailing the usual eating and drinking excesses partly due to the diet and partly as I’m on antibiotics due to a manky toe.

As with all Ayton games I had no need to paint ANYTHING… So I decided to bolster the small Ottoman brigade I have by rebasing one unit of mounted archers…

Adding shields, new command, and partly repainting a sipahi unit…

And starting from scratch a unit of Essex Miniatures Ottoman Sipahi…

And adding an ADC…

And with two days to go I decided I REALLY needed to finish the band I had planned for the Ottomans…

And now everything is packed and I’ll set off tomorrow. It will be fun. It always is with such a fine bunch of chaps.

Report to follow next week but I will post pics throughout the weekend on BlueSky.
