I could have sworn I’d done a Plans for 2025 post and a review of 2024. Clearly not. And I can’t even remember why I didn’t! But for most of this year the blog has been pretty dormant which is a shame… The first part of the year seemed to be based around getting the last few bits I wanted done for Ayton in May for the big game with Iain Burt where our ImagiNation armies would finally battle it out! It was a great weekend and a great game and hopefully soon I’ll write up a totally unbiased report… In the meantime…some pics…
The rest of the year seemed to be made up of painting random civilians, monks, nuns, cultists, and pirate/Ottoman types for skirmish games. I did make a good start on my C17th incarnation of Altefritzenburg but that seems to have fallen by the wayside again… A selection…
I did manage a few games of Midgard at my local club which was fun and may lead to ‘New Plans’…
The pirate/Ottoman types/ships were for a big game near Newark over The Other Partizan weekend organised by Dave Hall. And great fun it was too! Again, it deserves a proper writeup!
I’ve just totalled up my 2025 painting tally….all 28mm
285 Infantry (of which 118 were assorted civilians/monks/nuns etc. )
22 cavalry
11 ‘creatures’ – horses, demons, cows…
2 buildings
2 boats
1 bloody big ship…
Not too bad in retrospect…
Plans for 2026?
The year is shaping up to be ‘interesting’ for a variety of reasons of which more will come to light in the next few weeks…
Ayton – I’ve no idea what I’m playing or what I may aim to paint. We shall see.
Other games – another Newark game is a possible as is one down in deep dark Grays
I’d like to get to the club more. No excuse really…
So with no set games to define targets etc. it leaves a lot of options:
- More C18th stuff – pontoon train, Ottomans
- Revisit the 6mm ImagiNation project as that at least allows games in limited space
- Devilry Afoot and my C18th Guards of Traitor’s Toll project – need to get this on a table!
- Pondering a rebase of the 15mm ancients. I’ve enjoyed Midgard and the look of the big unit bases and there in turn could be used for Impetus and To The Strongest.
- Sell off the spare C17th stuff and finish that as a projects
- The Town – a few more buildings and stalls and then a basing plan to allow easy storage and easy layout
- MORE GAMES!!!
- Reading – still not fully back in the habit but getting there…
- Journal – start and maintain…yeah…
That has to be it really. I shall try and blog more and post updates other than on BlueSky but I’m not sure how many people really follow this blog so it comes down to just doing it for me…
So Happy New Year and we shall see what 2026 brings to use all.

Oh, there you are. I thought you’d given up blogging.
You’ve had a very productive year!
I was so pleased that we finally got to play a game with our imaginary armies. It was a gorgeous spectacle – particularly your lovely collection. Such a shame it couldn’t hang around for a little longer.
Ha. Ha. Ha.
Bloody hilarious…
But it was indeed a fine display.
That is an impressive number of figures. I look forward to updates during 2026.
